This was the inaugural open event for this years Binions Poker Classic. I have had some successes at Binions before and was hoping they would carry over to todays event. We started with 12000 in chips today and there were 200+ people registered.
Level 1: 25-50. My first major hand, I made it 125 in EP with TT, a loose calling station guy called from the cutoff, and the BB made it 525. I called and so did the calling station. The flop came 984 3 clubs, the BB lead out for 1000, I called, and so did the calling station. The turn came a J giving me an open ended straight draw and we all checked. The river came the 3c putting 4 clubs on board. The BB checked, I checked, the station bet 600, the BB called, and I folded. The BB had QQ with Qc so I would have lost no matter what. I was down to 10k after this. There were 2 limps to me in the BB and I checked J9o behind. The flop came 963 rainbow, I bet 125, and the calling station (previous hand) was the only caller. The turn came a 4, I bet 300, he made it 600, and I called. The river came a J, I checked and he checked behind showing 77 and I won. I made it 125 from the button with 73ss, the SB called, teh BB made it 350, and we both called. The flop came JT7, the SB checked, the BB bet 350 again, I called, and the SB folded. I normally fold here but the bet was just so small I thought id take a card off. The turn came a Q, she bet 600, and I folded. I then found AA for the first time in 4 full days of play. I made it 125 in the hijack and the calling station in the SB was the only caller. The flop came Q72r, he checked, I bet 200, and he called. The turn came a 9, he checked, I bet 500, he made it 1000, and I called. The river came a 3, he bet 2000, I called and he showed Q9 for top 2 pair on the most uncoordinated, dry board ever cracking my aces. I was downt ot 6900 or so after this. We soon went to the next level and I had nearly halved my starting stack in 1 level with 6325.
Level 2: 50-100. An MP player made it 350, I called in the cutoff with 98dd, and the calling station called in the BB. The flop came 887, the BB checked, the raiser bet 400, I made it 1500, and they both folded. Ugh. I made it 250 with 87 and got called in 1 spot. He folded to my 275 bet on the turn of a K53J board. I made it 250 with 99 from EP and the BB called but folded when I bet 275 on K64. I grinded my stack back up to 7625 and we went to the next level
Level 3: 100-200. Short level for me. Very first hand of the level, there were 2 limpers to the button, he made it 800, I found AKo in the SB and pushed all in. Everyone folded to the button and he tanked for a minute or so and ended up calling showing KK. GG me. I guess its a little much to jam 35bbs here but realistically, Im not going to 3-bet/fold, Im never going to flat here (especially since hes the button), and I hate the idea of 3-betting and check/folding on flops that I miss so I went with the jam here. It sucks when he wakes up with KK but what can you do?
Oh well, tomorrow I am playing the venetian $550 so its a big one so hopefully I am able to grind out a long long day.
