Todays event was a 6-handed event so I was going to have to play a little more aggressive and play more hands. This is also my favorite event at of the summer, I love the fact that its 6 handed with deep stacks and normally terrible players. There were 160 players in the tournament today and started with 12000 chips. I was in seat 1 with an old tight man in seat 2, a super aggro but good player in seat 3, tight players in 4 and 5, and a controlled aggro in seat 6.
A player made it 150 in MP and I called on the button with AJo. The BB called as well, the flop came A86, they checked to me, I bet 225, and they both folded. I found AA in MP and made it 150 and the SB called. The flop came Q42 and he check folded to 175. I then played my first major pot of the day. I raised to 125 UTG with AQss and the aggro kid in seat 3 made it 425 from the cutoff. The flop came QT3 2 clubs, I checked, he bet 575, and I just called. The turn came the 6c worrying me a little because of the 3 clubs. I checked to keep the pot small and he checked behind. The river came an ugly K, I checked, he bet 1550 and I talked myself into calling. He showed J9ss for the rivered straight. I guess I could have played this hand more aggressively by 4-betting or raising the flop but this just creates a bigger pot and theres no real guarantee he doesnt fold and I am playing a bigger pot when I dont need to be. . .I dont know I guess. A player in MP made it 175, the cutoff called, I 3-bet to 625 from the SB with KQss and the original raiser was the only caller. The flop came 544, I c-bet 800, and he called. The turn came a Q, I bet 1350, and he called again. The river came another Q giving me top full, I bet 2500, and he called but mucked when I showed. I guess I got lucky to hit my Qs and it was a nice pot. I made it 125 UTG with 99 and all 5 people called. I ended up folding on a KT5 flop. The aggro in seat 3 made it 150 UTG, a player in MP called, and I called in the SB with 99. The flop came J63 and I check called 375 from seat 3. The turn came a 5, I checked, I bet 650, and I folded. I was up to 17550 and we went to the next level.
Level 2: 50-100. The kid in seat 6 opened to 250 from MP, I made it 600 from the cutoff with K4dd, and the aggro in seat 3 cold 4-bet 1900 from the SB which resulted in me folding. The kid in seat 6 made it 250 UTG, I 3-bet A9dd from UTG +1 and he called. The flop came T62 and he folded before I could reach for chips. I was up to 17400 and we went to the next level.
Level 3: 100-200. I made it 475 from the SB into the BB with 86cc and he called. The flop came KQ8, I checked, he bet 400, and I called. The turn came Qc giving me a flush draw with my pair, I checked, and he bet a massive 2000 which resulted in me folding (he showed AA). I opened to 475 from UTG with Q8cc and seat 3 called from the cutoff. The flop came 865, I bet 600, and he called. The turn came a 4 filling an open ender, I checked and he checked behind. The turn came a 7 putting a straight 8-4 on board. I checked, he bet 2500, and I just folded. The SB limped into my BB and I made it 475 with JTo and he called. The flop came T55 and he check folded. Seat 6 made it 450 and I decided to flat the button with A6hh. The flop came J97, he checked, I bet 600, and he called. The turn came a 4, he checked, I fired a 2nd barrel of 1050, and he called. The river came a Q, he checked, and I gave up checking behind, which was a good move when he showed JJ for top set. I made it 475 from MP with A8o from MP and got called from the button and the SB. The flop came 875 and they folded to my 600 bet. I then lost a couple of pots that were pretty irritating. The aggro in seat 3 made it 450, the SB called, and I found AQo in the BB and 3-bet to 1325. They both called and the flop came T97 2 spades, I lead out for 1650 and seat 3 was the only caller. The turn came the 4s giving me the nut flush draw, I decided to check, and he checked behind. The river came another 7, I checked, and he checked behind showing 98 for a good pair. I guess I should have just fired more barrels here but I guess hes probably not folding the turn and hes maybe even hero calling the river so I dont know. A couple of hands later, I made it 475 with 65o from UTG and the BB called. The flop came 853, he donked out 800, and I called. We checked down the 9 turn and J river and he showed K5 for a higher kicker than my 65. Ugh, I know I should have bet the turn and/or river or raised the flop. I really played this like a wuss. I was down to 10150 and we went to the next level.
Level 4: 150-300 25. The player UTG made it 1275 (tight only man), the tight guy in seat 5 called, and I found TT in the BB and decided to just call. The flop came A92, I checked, the raiser bet 1800, and I folded. He showed AK so I guess I faded a flip here. The player in seat 5 opened to 750 UTG and I found AQo in the cutoff and just flatted. The BB called also, the flop came T74, the raiser bet out, and I folded. He showed T9cc so I guess this is a spot where the obvious 3-bet was correct. The tight old man made it 1250 from UTG and I called with KQ in the BB. The flop came A85 and I check folded to his 1875 bet. I made it 650 in MP with 94cc and the SB (seat 4) called. The flop came J63, he checked, I bet 800, and he called. we checked down the 8 turn and 5 river and he showed J4hh for top pair and I lost. I made it 650 UTG with T9o and got called in MP and by the BB. We checked to the turn on KJ5A where I folded to a bet (BB had KJ). I made it 650 from UTG with A4o and the tight old man made it 3200 from UTG +1 and I folded. I was down to 3975 after losing every pot this level.
Level 5: 200-400 50. 2nd hand of the level, I shipped my 10 bbs in from the cutoff with 54cc, the tight old man went all in from the button and showed KK. I flopped a 5 but failed to get any other help and was busted out much earlier than I like.
Rough day as nothing I tried worked and I didnt make too many hands as the blinds increased. It sucks because this tournament is so awesome and I just wasnt able to get anything going. I guess I will have to wait until next year to play this event again.
