Tourney: June 10th 2011 WSOP Daily Deepstack: $235

As stated in my previous writeup about this event, the WSOP daily deepstack is a tournament that has great value, but its structure is not as great as the other tournaments and the fields are massive making variance much higher. Todays field was no exception, getting 750 players with 72 spots paying and 1st place being $32k. Todays starting stack was 15000 in chips.

Level 1: 25-50. I made it 125 from UTG with K9ss, a player in MP 3-bet to 350, and I called. We checked down the runout of TsTx7s2x4s (making me a flush), I bet 600 on the river and he called and mucked. I made it 125 with A2hh from the button, the SB called, and the BB 3-bet to 500. We both called and the flop came J63 2 hearts giving me a flush draw. The SB checked, the BB bet 1100, I called, and the SB called as well. The turn came an offsuit 7 and I folded when the BB fired a 2nd barrel of 2500. There was 1 limper to me in the cutoff and I found KJss and made it 125. The SB, BB, and limper called and the flop cam AJ9. It checked to me and I checked behind. The turn came a 2, it checked to me again and I bet 150 resulting in everyone folding. I made it 125 in the hijack and the cutoff 3-bet to 450 causing me to fold. I was at 14825 and we went to the next level.

Level 2: 50-100. I checked the BB with 1 limper and the SB with Q3o and the flop came T32. I bet out 125 and both people called. The turn came a K, I bet 300 and the SB was the only caller. The river came an A and we both checked and he showed KJ for a winning hand. A player in MP made it 350 and I called from the SB with AQo. We checked the flop of J76 and on the 3 turn, I bet 450 resulting in a fold. I made it 250 from MP with AQo and got called from the cutoff, the button and the BB. The flop came 983 and I ended up folding to a bet. I was at 14950 and we went to the next level.

Level 3: 100-200. A player in EP made it 550, a player in MP called, and I called on the button with KJcc. The flop came 974 and the MP player lead for 2000 to which I folded. There was a weak limp in EP and I made it 675 from MP with KThh. The button decided to make it 1850 and I folded. The SB raised to 600 into my BB and I found 76dd and called. The flop came Jx5d4d giving me an open ended straight flush draw. He check called my 1025 bet on the flop. The turn came the Kd completing my flush, he checked, I bet 2200, and he folded. I then made a misstep when I tried my first light 3-bet of the day (and it failed). A player in the cutoff opened to 600 and I found A2ss in the SB and made it 1650 which he called. The flop came 965, I lead out for 2200, he made it 4400, and I folded. I was down to 11300 and we went to the next level.

Level 4: 150-300 25. I opened to 650 UTG +2 with A2dd and the SB was the only caller. The flop came a nice 543 giving me the wheel, he checked, I fired 800, and he called. The turn came an ugly 6, he checked, and I decided to check behind. The river came a Q, he lead for 2000, and I called with my low straight. He showed 63 for just 2 pair and I won a nice sized pot. There was a UTG limper, the button limped, the SB limped, and I found TT in the BB and decided to just check my option. The flop came AQ5 all diamonds (with me having the Td). The UTG player bet 750 which I check called. The turn came the Kd giving me the 2nd nut flush, I checked, and he checked behind. The river came the 3d, I bet out 1750, and he folded. I then was able to win a nice sized pot with a premium hand. I found KK in MP and opened for 650. It folded to the BB who moved all in for about 6k and I insta called. He showed AQ and the board ran out T7342 and I was able to win. I was up to 22800 and we went on the 1st break.

Level 5: 200-400 50. A player UTG made it 1300 and I called in the hijack with KQhh. The flop came QJ2, he bet 1500, and I called. The turn came an 8, he checked, I bet 2200, and he called. The river came a T, he checked, and I checked behind. He showed TT for a rivered set and I was down a little (the river T is the worst card in the deck for me because AK and TT gets there and that is pretty much his range). There was an EP limper and I made it 1025 from the cutoff with 65o. The limper called and check folded to my 1500 bet on KT7. I made it 1025 from MP with 65o (again) but folded when the button 3-bet to 2525. I was at 17600 and the price of poker went up.

Level 6: 300-600 75. I made it 1450 UTG +1 with AKo and the BB was the only caller. The flop came AJ4, he checked, and I checked behind to trap. The turn came a K, he lead out for 1700, I put him all in for his last 7700 (total) and he instafolded (maybe I got an extra 1700 by checking behind on the flop). I then was able to go on a nice streak winning 3 straight hands. I made it 1450 UTG +2 with 32cc and everyone folded. I made it 1450 UTG +1 with QTss and everyone folded. I made it 1450 UTG with AdJx and the button and small blind called. The flop came J93 all diamonds giving me top/top with the nut flush draw. The SB checked, I bet 2100, and they both folded. I made it 1450 from the button with 44 and both of the blinds called. The flop came AK9 and they both check/folded when I c-bet 2100. After my round of winning, I was up to 29700.

Level 7: 400-800 100. I made it 1725 in MP with J9hh and the button went all in for 12k causing me to fold. That was it for this level and I was at 27675.

Level 8: 600-1200 150. 150 antes BTW. . .haha. I opened for 2625 UTG +1 with T6ss but folded when UTG +2 when all in for about 15k. A player in EP made it 2800 and I found AKo in the BB and jammed, resulting in him folding. I was at 24100 and we went on the 2nd break.

Level 9: 800-1600 200. I went into this level with the plan of going crazy in order to try to chip up some to survive the increasing blind levels. I opened for 3500 in MP with QJo and the BB was the only caller. The flop came K92, he checked, I bet 5000, and he folded. There were 3 players at the table that I said I was shipping on their opens without looking at my hand until I got to 40k. One of these players, a young kid with a ton of chips, opened to 3500 in EP and I was in the BB and pushed all in for about 30k. He folded and I looked at what ended up being 99. . .ha. The guy on my right, who was another one of the resteal guys, opened to 4800 from the cutoff and I jammed the button for about 35k. He folded and I looked at Q3o. I was up to 41200 for a successful chipping up level.

Level 10: 1000-2000 300. Unfortunately, all the chipping up didnt end up meaning anything in the end as I made my exit pretty early on in this round. A lady who just got moved to our table pushed all in from UTG +1 for 7200, the kid with a lot of chips (who I reshipped on) called from UTG +2, and a player in MP pushed all in for his last ~13k or so. It folded to me in the BB and I found JJ and went all in for ~40k on top of the 2 all ins already. Unluckily for me, the kid who flat called the original raise instacalled showing KK for the nice flat/trap. The lady UTG had A2 and the MP all in had A9. The board ran out all small cards and the KK held up shipping him a massive pot. I dont think Im ever getting away from JJ in this spot, in this structure with my chipstack. As far as I was concered, the lady could be shipping ATC UTG there as she only has 3.5bbs and her blind is next, the kid could be calling her super wide because he has alot of chips and she has very few, and the guy in MP could see this action and decide to go with a marginal hand as there are so many chips in the pot already. I was right on 2/3 accounts, not really seeing the kid with all the chips flatting KK here. I really doubt I am able to get away here even if he 3-bets the initial all in. The blinds go up increasingly fast as the tournament goes on and having JJ with 20bbs here is pretty much a sure thing I think. I guess if I hit my J I skyrocket to 100k but as it is, I busted in about 240th of the 750 person field.

Not too bad of day. Not too much exciting happened today but I thought I played good enough and just ran into a cooler in the end. Venetain $350 tomorrow so hopefully im focused and ready to play well.
