Tourney: June 3rd 2011 Binions Poker Classic Event #5: $210

Todays tournament we started off with 15000 chips. There were 123 people, paying 12 spots with a 6k 1st prize. My starting table was relatively tough for a binions tournament with a few younger aggressive kids but it was still very beatable overall.

Level 1: 25-50. A lady in the cutoff made it 125, the SB called, and I called in the BB with 65hh. The flop came 965, the SB lead for 200, I flatted, and the raiser called as well. The turn came an A, we checked to the raiser who bet 325, the SB folded, I made it 1500, and she folded. I made it 125 in the cutoff with ATss but folded when the button made it 450. I made it 125 in MP with JTo and got 3 callers. We checked to the turn on AQ48 and I called 225 with 1 other caller (3-handed) with my double gutter. The river came a T and I was no good when someone showed an A. I made it 125 with QT0 in MP and got a call from the cutoff. The flop came T54, I bet 150, and he called. The turn came a J, I bet 275, and he folded. I made it 125 in the cutoff with KQss and the SB was the only caller. We both checked the 953 flop and when the J came on the turn, I folded to a 325 bet. I made it 125 with A9o in MP but folded when the button made it 425. I was at 15500, up slightly, when we went to the next level.

Level 2: 50-100. It didnt take me too long into this level for me to get into a tight spot. I opened to 250 UTG with 85cc and got called by UTG +1, UTG +2, and the SB. The flop came 965 and we checked to the turn which came another 5, giving me trips. The SB lead out for 600, I called, UTG +1 made it 2500, UTG +2 folded, the SB called, and I called as well. The river came a 4, SB checked, I checked, and UTG +1 moved all in for a stack greater than my ~12.5k. The SB folded and this was truly a horrible spot. He was an aggressive older man who might have been overvaluing his hand but I really had no idea where he was at. If he flopped a set it is a really strange spot to check behind on the flop. He could have flopped a straight or had A5 but I just dont know. I ended up folding, giving him credit for exactly A5 but I have no idea if this is the right play. I probably just shouldnt open in this position in the first place to stay out of trouble. I was down to around 12500 after this. An MP raiser made it 250, the button called, and I called from the SB with A6hh but folded on a T54 flop. A loose aggressive european kid (with a ton of chips already) made it 250 in the hijack, I made it 625 in the cutoff with A9o, he 4-bet to 1900 and I folded. An aggressive cally EP raiser made it 250 and I found KK in MP and made it 625. He called and the flop came QT3 adn he check-called my 850 bet. The turn came another Q which we both checked. The river came a 7, he lead 1200 and I called and he announced "ace high" and my kings were good. I was back to 14.5k after this. I then went on a back backslide playing 2 hands pretty poorly. I opened to 250 UTG with Q4ss and the lady in the cutoff made it 600. Normally I would just fold here but she was such an easy mark I knew I would get paid if I hit my hand so I called. The flop came J52 2 spades, making me a flush draw. I checked, she bet 700, and I called. I thought about raising but she was so cally/spewy I dont need to inflate the pot until I have a hand. The turn came an offsuit K, I checked, she bet 1300, and I called again. Alot of times I will fold draws here but the bet amount was so small and that combined with the fact that I know I will get paid if I hit made me call. The river came an offsuit A, I checked, she went all in for 7000, and I folded. I guess I didnt play this one too badly (other than the open) but I lost some chips that I needed at that point in the tourney. My next hand actually was a really poor play. The LAG euro kid to my right made it 250 from the hijack and I made it 600 from the cutoff with 99. He called and we took a flop of Q75. He checked and I checked behind. The turn came a T, he lead out for 800 and I called. The river came an 8, he bet 2000, I called, and he showed KQ. The part of the hand I hate so so much is the call on the river. Calling on the turn is standard after checking the flop because Im checking on the flop to setup a showdown (usually call on turn c/c river) but the moment he bets the river I know Im beat. In fact, even though I am always calling the turn I had a funny feeling he had it this time and I should just fold there. The river bet reempasized this feeling but I still called anyways. One of my first real leaky plays Ive made in a tournament in Vegas. I was down to 8425 and we went to the next level.

Level 3: 100-200. After losing these hands I decided to really really go into a hole and tighten extremely up because I knew I could get my stack back by waiting for the right moments. This level, the only hand I played is when a guy in EP made it 400, the button called, and I called in the SB with KJhh. The flop came QQ5 and I folded to a bet. I took 7625 to the next level.

Level 4: 150-300 25. Still in my shell. The laggy euro guy made it 750 from the button and I jammed all in from the SB with A8cc and everyone folded. I made it 650 with AJo UTG +1, UTG +2 and the BB called. The flop came 555 and we checked around. The turn came a 2, the BB bet 1200, I called, and UTG +2 folded. The river came a K and we both checked and I won when she showed 43. I made it 650 with A9ss UTG, got called from the button and the BB, and folded on a QJ5 flop. I was up to 9350 and we went to the next level.

Level 5: 200-400 50. Still in my shell. The LAG euro on my right made it 1000 from MP and I made it 2600 right behind him with 99 and everyone folded. That was it and I took 9300 to the next level.

Level 6: 300-600 50. Still in my shell. The hijack made it 1200 and I jammed the SB with QJss and everyone folded. I found 33 on the button and jammed ~10k and the blinds folded. I then found my hand that got me out of my shell. I was in MP and found KK and made it 1350 and both of the blinds called. The flop came AKT 2 hearts, giving me a set on a dangerous drawing board. The SB checked, the BB bet out 1200, I made it 3500, the SB folded, and she called. The turn came the 6h which really worried me becuase it completed a flush draw and this lady loved to play suited connector type hands. She put me all in for my last 7000 or so and I called (because Im never folding here) and luckily all she could show my was Ah6x for a turned 2 pair/nut flush draw combo. I faded her 11 outer with a T on the river and doubled up to over 24k. I made it 1350 UTG with AJo, the cutoff went all in for 4k, the button reshipped for 12k, and I folded (cutoff=TT, button=QQ, flop had an A. . .Doh). I made it 1350 from the cutoff with 54cc and had to fold when the button moved all in. I took 21300 to the next level.

Level 7: 400-800 100. I made it 1800 with A2dd from the hijack and the button called. We checked down the board of 962TK and my deuces were good when he showed AQ. I made it 1800 UTG +1 with AJss and everyone folded. Then came a big hand that cost me a huge stack. A player UTG +1 limped, the SB limped, and I found AKo in the BB and made it 2800. The limper made it 7000 or so, it folded to me and I put him all in for his last 15k or so. He called showing TT and we were off to the races. The board ran out A733T where I flopped a pair, looked like I was going to end up with a massive stack, and ended up losing to a set on the river . Sick way to lose a flip but I suppose I was due after I did the same thing deep in the venetian $340. I was down to 8000 or so after this. I found QTo on the button and pushed all in and the blinds folded. I was at 10000 even when we went to the next level.

Level 8: 500-1000 100. I jammed my ~10k UTG with 33 and everyone folded. Next hand, it folded to the LAG euro in the SB who put me all in for my ~12k stack which I knew he would do no matter what. I looked down at ATss in the BB and snap called, he showed 87o and the board ran out QT7J7 burning me on the river again and busting me out in approximately 60th place.

Bad result but the positive is that I know that I played really really well so I cant complain too much. Big day tomorrow as I will be playing the Venetian $550 so hopefully I can continue my good play.
