Todays tournament had 105 players paying 6k to first. I ended up late regging so I didn’t join until the 2nd level of the tournament. My table was really easy so I was hoping I could take advantage of it. We started with 12000 in chips.
Level 2: 50-100. There was one weak limper so I attempted to iso from the cutoff by raising to 325 with 82ss. The BB was the only caller and the flop came A97. He checked, I bet 400, he raised to 1050, and I had to fold. I then was subject to a cooler that bumped me down quite a bit in chips. I opened to 250 with JTo got called from the kid behind me and the blinds. The flop came TT8 with 2 diamonds, the blinds checked, I bet 550, the kid behind called, the SB made it 1525, and both me and the kid behind called. The turn came a safe offsuit 4, the SB checked, I bet 3100, the kid behind me called, and the SB folded. The river came the 6d completing both a straight and flush, I checked, the kid behind bet 2500, and I folded after a long tank. He showed me T8 for a a flopped full house (I guess the river saved me money). I was down to 6000 after this. Luckily I was able to get some back soon after this. I opened to 250 UTG with 44, a terrible player made it 650 in MP, the button called, the SB called, and I called. The flop came QQ4 2 spades giving me a full house. We checked to the button who bet out 2200 and I was the only caller. The turn came the As completing a flush, I checked and he decided to check behind. The river came the Ks putting a 4-flush on board (which I didn’t really like). I bet 2000 and he called and I was good (another player on the table asked to see his hand and he showed 55 no spade. . .haha I guess I missed value if he is calling here). I made it 250 with K9dd UTG and got 4 calls. The AK8 flop was checked around. The turn came a 9 giving me middle 2 pair, I bet 800 and got 1 caller from LP. The river came a Q, I checked and he checked behind and I was good. I was up to 14025 and we went to the next level.
Level 3: 75-150. The button and SB limped into my BB. I found AKo, made it 550, and they folded. I made it 350 with Q9ss from MP and the donkey from the button called. The flop came JT5 2 hearts, I bet 400, and he called. The turn came the 8h putting a potential flush on board but also completing my nut straight. I bet out 750 and he called. The river came the 7h putting 4 hearts on board, I checked, he bet 1550, I got stubborn and called with my nut straight but was no good when he showed Ah6x for the WTF flop call. I was down to 11k or so after this. I then made an unsuccessful bluff attempt that cost me chips. A player in MP opened to 375 and I decided to call from the BB with A7o. The flop came 843, I checked, he bet 500, I raised to 1525, and he called. The turn came another 3, I bet 2500, and he called. The river came a T, I checked and he checked behind showing 66 for the winner. I guess I should have gotten another barrel in here and he probably folds the river but I probably shouldn’t be making this play in the first place because I know they will call with 66. I made it 350 with KQhh, got 2 calls, and checkfolded the AT9 flop. I was down to 5950 and we went to the next level.
Level 4: 100-200 25. The rollercoaster ride continued on this level. I made it 475 from the cutoff with KJo and the donk guy made it 1475 from the SB. I called and the board ran out A76K8, he checked the river, I value bet 2500 which he snap called but mucked when I showed my hand. I was up to 11550 and we went to the next level.
Level 5: 150-300 25. I played a pot where I made a questionable call but I think Im OK with it. A player in EP opened to 825 and I found 99 on the button and called. The flop came Q87 all spades he checked, I bet 800, and he called. The turn came an offsuit 4, he checked, I bet 1400, he made it 3000, and I called. I think that he is checkraising with the As a lot here and there are a ton of hands in his range that I can beat and I can reevalute on the river. The river came a 7, he lead out for 2500, and I called. He showed AJss for the flopped nuts. His line doesn’t make a ton of sense for a good amount of his opening range here so I really thought he was bluffing but it makes sense for the flopped nuts. I just really didn’t think he flopped the nuts because he tricked me on the flop when, after I bet, he rechecked his hand (I thought he was looking for a spade so I put him on the As here but I got owned). I was down to 5k after this. I found TT UTG +1 and made it 650, a player in MP made it 5000 putting me all in and I called. He showed A4o and I held doubling to 11k or so. This level ended soon with me having 10800.
Level 6: 200-400 50. A player limped MP, I completed the SB with 97dd, and the BB checked. The flop came J86 2 spades, I lead out for 650 and the limper called. The turn came another 6, I lead out 1550, and he called. The river came an A, I decided to give up (I was worried about the nut flush draw getting there with an A) and he checked behind showing T9ss for the ten high winner. I suck I guess I should have bet the river just because the nut flush draw is the ONLY hand he can call with. . .the A is a scare card if he has a J and he missed every other draw possible. I know I should bet but I made a hiccup here. I was down to 8450 or so and we went to the next level.
Level 7: 300-600 50. 1st hand of the level, A player opened UTG to 1700, I found AQo UTG +2 and jammed my 8400. It got back to him and he called showing AJo and I had him dominated. However, the board ran out an ugly JJ74T and I busted out early in the day.
I made some bad plays today but was able to recover from them multiple times (so that’s a positive) but just wasn’t able to hold up again in the end. I didn’t play terrible but I know I can play better than I did today.
