I decided to play the 12 daily at the Venetian again today. It was a Tuesday and there were less people than there usually are in this tournament I feel. There were only 86 people, but first place was still like 3.3k and they still paid off 9 places.
The tournament obviously started poorly for me (as it always does). I had A6o in the bb in a limped pot and the flop came AK5. I bet out 200 and got called in one place. The turn came a 4 and it went check-check. The river came a J and I checked and the guy bet out 300 and I called and he showed J5 for a rivered 2 pair and I was down to 7k. This hand got me a little frustrated so I went on some semi-tilt and donked off a few chips. I raised in the hijack to 150 with T9o and the button called. The flop came QT3 and I checked, he bet 400 and I called (like a donk). The turn came a Q and I checked, he bet 1000 and I called (Im obviously no good here). The river came a blank and I checked and he checked behind and showed KK and I was down to 5500 or so. I then donked a few more chips when I raised in MP with KJhh and got called by the BB. We checked down a board of AT7TJ and I called his 400 river bet and he showed A6 and I was down to 4800 or so.
The level went up to 50-100 after this. To piss myself off even further, I misplayed a big hand and got no action. There were 2 loose giant donks who doubled up early and had had big stacks and they were raising/playing every pot. I set a nice trap by limping UTG with AA and one of them took the bait and raised to 500. Everyone folded back to me and I decided to reraise to 1650 instead of just flatting like I should have. He ended up folding which drove me crazy that I didn’t get any action from a donk here. I went up to 5500 but then lost a coinflip to a short stack who only had like 750 or so with my AQcc vs his 66 on AKJ67 and was back down to 4800. I tilt-limped a few hands and missed the flop and was down to 4k but then raised it to 200 UTG with 88 (I thought that the blinds were 100-200 and I was limping but it was the hand before they changed still so it was a raise to 200). I got 4 callers and the flop came 994 and I bet out 750 and everyone folded and I was back up to 4800.
The blinds went up to 100-200 and my table soon broke. At my other table, I was down to 4400 and made it 525 with ATo in MP and it folded to the BB. He pushed me all in and I folded. Nothing else happened during this level and I was down to 3850 at the end of the 1st break.
We came back to level 4 (100-200 25) and the first hand after break, I got involved. UTG limped and I was UTG +2 and raised it to 625 with AQo. He called and the flop came KT9. He bet out 300 and Im not folding for that much for so I called. The turn came a 5 and he bet 300 again and I called. The river came an 8 and he bet 300 again and I called and he showed JT and my A high was no good. Bah poorly played hand but just a goofy situation. I should have raised at one point during the hand. I was down to 2200 or so. I was down to 1800 and I found 55 with one limper ahead of me and I pushed. The limper called and showed A3hh and I held and doubled to 4500 or so. Next hand I raised to 525 with ATo and the BB put me all in and I folded and was down to 3850 or so again. I limped with QThh in MP with a couple of limpers ahead of me and 6 of us took the flop. The flop came Q72 and one of the limpers bet 200, I raised to 1000 and everyone folded getting me up to over 5k.
The blinds then went up to 200-400 25. I raised in EP to 1025 with 99 and got called by the person behind me. Everyone else folded and we checked down a board of KT3TQ and my 99 was good and I was up to 6k. I was in the BB and there were 2 limpers plus the SB and I found Q9ss. The flop came T83 and I bet out 1200 and everyone folded and I was back up to 7200.
The blinds went up to 300-600 50 and I really wasn’t able to find a spot for a long while and dwindled down a little. I eventually found AQss and made it 1550 in MP and the SB called. The flop came KJ7 and he bet out 1200 (he wasn’t a guy that bet out a lot but check folded when he missed so I assume that I was beat here) and I folded. I went to the 2nd break extremely shortstacked at 3325 because I really couldn’t find a spot to take any chips.
The blinds came back at 400-800 75 and I was in the BB coming back. There were only 3 tables left actually at this point so if I could catch some hands here I would still be OK. I actually was able to fold/stall out for a while before pushing (stealing the blinds twice with 2500 and getting no call with my garbage hands luckily). With 5 minutes left in the level, this really loose terrible player raised it to 2500 from EP and I pushed all in right behind him for 2550 with ATo. I knew that I had him beat and it sucked that the BB woke up with AA here, reraised (the guy folded KT so I had him crushed) and the board blanked out. I finished in 28th or so despite never getting higher than my original 7500 in chips at any point in the tournament. Pretty decent for playing pretty poorly and never really making any hands.
The Venetian deepstack technically starts tomorrow and I am thinking about playing the super satellite tomorrow for $275. The top 10% in the field gets 2500 in tournament lammers so it would help me pay for most of my events that I am planning to play in. Additionally, the actual tournaments start on Thursday and the structure is extremely extremely good, even compared to previous years! In the $300s, you get a whopping 12000 in starting chips, with 40 minute levels, and the same blind structure as the current noon tournaments. That pretty much means that for almost 6 hours and if you have your starting stack, you would still have 10x the BB. That pretty sick and I feel like I have a good chance of going really deep in multiple of these tournaments with this sick structure. Well see what happens as judgment day is almost on me.
