Before this session, I talked in depth with Sean and he is really trying to help me with my cash game so I am going to be trying to play extremely differently than I have been. I will be raising more PF, c-betting more on the flop, and limping a lot less often before the flop. Also, I will be limiting my hand selection to play a lot less suited connectors preflop but be playing pairs very aggressively preflop and on the flop. I tried to start playing more like this tonight.
The first hand I played, a really loose donk raised to $7 from EP and I found KK on the button and made it $25. The flop came A95 and he checked to me and I bet out $25. He called and the turn came another A. He checked and I checked. The river came a 5 and he bet out $20, I called and he showed QT for nothing and I was up to $260.
An EP raiser made it $17 and got a caller. I found 33 in the SB and called and the flop came 456. It checked around and the turn came an A. The raiser bet out $20, the caller called, and I called with my 2 way str draw. The river came a 3, giving me a set. It checked around and they both showed AQ and I won. Sean says that I should be betting the river here for both value and as a protection bet (so I wont have to call a big bet on the river with just a set. . .if I bet out here smaller and get raised I know he has a straight but if I check and he just bets out big, I almost have to call with my set so a protection bet here makes sense). Anyways, I was up to $300 or so after this.
The next hand after this, someone in MP made it $17 and I found AKdd on the button and flatted. Two other people called and the flop came KQ7 and it checked to me and I bet $45 and everyone folded and I was up to $350. I then raised in EP with ATcc and got 3 callers. The flop came AKJ and I lead out for $25 and got one caller. The turn came a 6 and I bet $25 again and he called. The river came a 7 and I checked and he checked any my AT was good and I was up to $420.
However, the next 2 hands didn’t go nearly as well. I found AQcc UTG and made it $10. I got 2 callers and the flop came JJ8. I bet out $20 on the flop and the donk from the KK hand called me. The turn came a T and I checked and he bet $20 and I called with my double gutshot. The river came a blank and I checked and he bet $65 or so and I folded and I was down to $370 or so. The next hand I was in the BB with 6 limpers and I found JJ and made it $22 to go. I got one caller and the flop came KhQh7x. I bet out $25 and he called. The turn came a T and I checked and he checked. The river came another heart and I checked and he went all in and I folded and he said he made his flush (so I would have won this pot if he doesn’t hit the river like that—unlucky).
I was down to $320 or so and nothing much else happened for the next hour and I cashed out with $331 for a net profit of $131 and my first win in a cash game for my last 7 efforts. Hopefully this streak will continue.
