I had been drinking previous to this game so this was the first time I tried this. Drinking, for the most part, does not affect my game and I have been known to feel like I play better after a few drinks (but obviously do not try this or have not tried this that often). I usually play tighter as I am able to concern myself with other things besides the cards so when I do play a hand, I sometimes analyze it more thoroughly as all my attention can be devoted to it when I finally enter a pot.
This session was no exception, as I only played pretty much 3 pots that are even worth mentioning. The first of which occurred about an hour in. I hadn’t played 1 pot outside the blinds and was in the BB with 32o. The flop came 922 and I bet out $10 and got 2 callers. The turn came an offsuit 7 and I bet out $20 and got one caller. The river came an 8 and I bet $20 more (keeping it small because I thought hed fold a 9 to 3 barrels) and he did call and mucked when I showed.
I was up to $240 or so and played pretty tightly, but I did pick up quite a few smaller pairs and some other hands like KQs where I saw a flop and missed and folded to multiple betters. I was back down to about $200 when I decided to finally get a little aggressive. We were playing 6 handed (people were away from the table) and it folded to me in the cutoff. I found A7hh and decided to raise the blinds. I got 1 caller from the BB and the flop came Qx9h4h giving me an over and a FL draw. He checked to me and I bet $15 and he called. I was trying to think what he had here and I know that he might check/call me with a 9, and because he was talking about how tightly I was playing before this hand he might just check call me with a Q as well because he might figure be for AA/KK so a Q or 9 are legitimately in his range right now. He would also play like this with a lower FL draw or a JT. A 4 would not be in his range because he probably wouldn’t have called preflop with a 4 in his hand so I eliminated that card. The turn came another 4 and he checked to me and I bet out $25. He called and I still am trying to figure out what he has. I don’t think he would check call me with a 9 2 times so I figure him for having a Q, a Str draw, or a lower Fl draw. The river came an offsuit 6, having me miss my Fl draw. He bets out $20 and Im like WTF. He wouldn’t try to value bet a 9 here (if he was still even in the hand with one). He probably wouldn’t bet a Q here because if he just check called the flop and turn, he wouldn’t all the sudden try to value bet the river. He probably doesn’t have a 4 because it wasn’t in his range PF or on the flop. Therefore I figured him for a busted Str or Fl draw. I called with A high and he showed me 99 for 9s full. My analysis was pretty off but I think that with his range, I could have had the best hand here (I don’t make hero calls like that all that often) but I was way wrong as I didn’t even think about 99 in his range. I am lucky that I didn’t make my flush on the river I guess.
I was down to $100 and rebought for $100 more after this hand. I played just one more significant hand, I raised with 1 limper to $10 with KJdd and got called by both of the blinds and the limper. The flop came A107 and it checked to me and I checked behind as well. The turn came a 9, giving me a double gutter. The blinds checked and the limper bet out $15. I called as there was ~$40 in the pot and the blinds folded. The river came a blank and he checked and I checked and he showed me Q9 which sucked because I would have won if I bet at any point in the hand. I ended up cashing out for $142, which meant a net loss of $158 so that’s 2 big losing sessions in a row so that sucks. Hopefully it will turn around today.
