Cash Game: Running Aces May 11th 2011

Today was a pretty bad day for me. I didnt end up losing that much but I should have won alot. I misplayed 3 or maybe 4 of the 5 big pots I played and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to think that if I wouldnt have played poorly, I would have won. Also, this is probably the first (maybe the 2nd) session I have played at Running Aces where I thought that I played badly. On to the hands.

First hand I entered I called $6 from the BB with a7dd with 2 other callers and I folded to a bet on the turn on a KJ310 board. I limped with a6o in the sb with 4 other players and I bet $4 on the J64 flop. One of the limpers raised to $8, another limper called, and I called the additional $4 more. The turn and river filled out 37 and they showed down 88 and JT. I raised to $6 from the cutoff with A9ss and the BB was the only caller. My c-bet of $8 was good on a 984 flop. I raised to $8 out of the BB with one limper with KQo and both the limper and the SB called. I flopped the nuts on JT9 2 hearts and bet $14 and they both folded. There were 2 limpers to me on the button and I made it $10 with J9dd. Both the limpers called and checked to me on a K77 flop and I bet $14 but folded to a raise to $30. I raised to $8 with QJ in LP and got called by the SB and an EP limper. I c-bet $12 on a 985 flop and won it.

I then won a decent sized pot when I raised to $8 with KQ0 and the sb was the only caller. The flop came TT9 and we both checked. The turn came a J giving me the nut straight and he lead out for $16 and I just flatted. The river came a 4 and he bet $16 and I made it $46 and he called with what he said was a lower straight. If that was the case maybe I missed value which is too bad. I was up to $240 after this.

I then played my only big pot of the day where I didnt misplay my hand. I called an EP raise with 22 and there were 3 other callers behind. The flop came a beautiful 882 and it checked to me, I bet $24 and got one caller behind. The turn came an A and I bet $40, he made it $100, and I put him all in for about $140. He called and the river came a 3 and he mucked when I showed (im guessing he had an 8) and I was up to $410 and riding high. However, this is by far as good as today would get.

I then spewed off most of these winnings in a series of medium pots where I didnt win. I raised a Straddle to $14 with A9ss and the straddle was the only caller. We went check/check on the 1074 flop and when the turn came the K, he checked and I bet out $18. He called and we checked down the 8 river and his KQ was good ($380). I made it $8 with AJo UTG and got 3 callers. I check folded the 872 flop and someone showed 77. I raised the button with one limper to $8 with A8o and the blinds and the limper called. The flop came K75 with 2 clubs and it checked to me and I c-bet $14. One of the blinds called and the turn came a Q. He checked and I fired out a 2nd barrell with $24 and he called. The river came a 2, he checked, and decided to check behind because I thought I was good if he had clubs or a straight draw and I figured he was never folding a king if he had one. He showed K9 and was good and I was down to $320.

I then played my first big pot where I misplayed my hand. With an EP limper, a loose aggressive younger guy made it $14 from the cutoff. I was in the BB and found AA. I decided to just flat and this opened up the pot for both the BB and the limper to call. Ugh. The flop came KT4 rainbow and I checked with the thought of check raising. However, everyone checked around. The turn came the 7s putting 2 spades on the board. I bet out $34 and the raiser was the only caller. The river came the Qs and I checked to him and he bet out $40. I called and he showed me AJ for the rivered broadway. Kind of a gross river and if the gutterball doesnt come, I am obviously not talking about how badly I played this pot but as it is, I can point to 3 mistakes. First is not raising preflop. I hadnt been playing too aggressively but the raiser liked to call after he raised so I am probably getting action from him if I raise. If not, I can at least take down the $14. Second, I should be leading out on the flop. There are a number of hands that are calling preflop that would fold to bets but that could hit gutterballs on turn. Plus if someone has a king I know I am getting action. Third is calling on the river. With the Q of spades, I am now not beating flushes, straights, or 2 pair. I dont know what his range of calling on the turn is but it probably falls into one of those hands (maybe even QQ). I am almost always beat on the river here and I know I am good enough to fold so it should be a fold here.

After this hand I was back down to $230. Later, I raised to $8 UTG with K7cc and the guy UTG+1 made it $22. I folded and he showed AA. I made it $8 with A4ss and got one caller, the flop came 822 with 2 spades giving me the nut flush draw and I bet out $12 and he called. The turn and river came K8 and we checked down and he showed 77 which was good. I was down to $200 after this.

I made it $8 UTG 43dd and got 4 callers. We checked to the turn on a board of K939 and I bet $18 and everyone folded. I found AA again and made it $10 UTG+1 and everyone folded. I made it $8 in EP with 73dd got 2 callers . The flop came KQ5 and I bet $12 and got one caller. The turn and river came 2dQd, giving me runner runner flush and the caller checked, I bet $24, and he folded showing a King. It folded to me on the button and I found AA and made it $6 and the blinds folded. I limped with 66 with 5 other players and c-bet $6 on TT2 and everyone folded. I called $6 from the BB with 88 and 3 other callers and folded on the turn of KK9Q. I made it $14 with A6dd on a straddle and got 2 callers but folded when the straddler made it $54. I was at $240 after this.

I then tightened up but still managed to lose a series of small pots. I made it $8 with 89o and one limper and folded when the BB made it $30. I limped behind a bunch of limpers with A5cc. The flop came QJT 2 clubs giving me the nut flush draw and I decided to check behind. The turn came an offsuit 7 and it checked to me and I bet $6 and got 2 callers. The river came a Q and we checked around and one guy showed T9 and was good. I made it $8 with QJo and someone behind me made it $32 and I folded. I made it $14 with K3dd on a straddle and the SB was the only caller. He lead out for $27 on a T94 flop and I folded. I made it $8 with 99 in MP and got 3 callers. The flop came QJ5 and it checked to me, I bet $14 and one of the checkers raised to $30 and I folded.

I found 55 in the cutoff and made it $6 and the button was the only caller. The flop came K87 and I c-bet $8 and he called. The turn came a Q and I checked and he bet $10. I thought this was a weird spot for him to be betting so I called. The river came another Q and I checked and he checked and showed 87 and that was good. I made a weird call on the turn but my thinking was if he had a K, he would bet more and he wouldnt be betting with an 8 or 7 so I put him on a straight draw. Questionable.

I rasied to $8 with 77 and got 2 callers and folded on a J98 flop. I made it $10 ith AJo and the BB was the only caller. The flop came A46 and we both checked (I checked behind to trap). The turn came the 2s putting 2 spades on the board and he bet out $8 and I called. The river came the 10s and he bet out $14 and I just called becuase the flush got there but he was bluffing so I took it down. I made it $8 UTG with 54dd and got a caller on the button and from the BB. the flop came 973 2 hearts and we checked around. The turn came another 9 and I bet out $12 and they both called. The river came an offsuit K and I bet $24 becuase every draw missed and they both folded.

I was at $200 or so and then I misplayed another large hand. I completed the SB with 4 limpers with J9o. The flop came QT8 2 diamonds and I checked. The cutoff bet $8, the button called, I made it $32, and the initial bettor then made it $92! The flatter folded and I just flatted (more on this later). The turn came the Ad (bad card) and I checked and he checked and the river came an offsuit 4 and I checked and he checked. I said 2 pair and I showed and won. Ugh. Did I mess this pot up. First off, the guy who I was playing this pot with was definently the best player at the table other than me. The reason why I flatted the flop at the time was two fold. First was that if a diamond came on the turn I could get away if he showed alot of aggession on the next 2 streets. Second was if I 4 bet max i obviously have the nuts and he probably folds sets/2 pair there. However, this was not complete thinking on my part. I should have realized that 1)I am not getting away if a diamond hits and 2)He is never folding for $60 more after putting $92 in there already with sets/2 pair. I only had about $100 behind so I make it $60 and he probably calls and then I bet $40 all in on the turn and he has to call there too. However, the diamond on the turn slowed me down (and him too for good reason) and then the river I just checked becuase I had it in my mind that he wouldnt call and if he did he had me beat. Terrible thinking on my place. I could have saved the hand, at least, by betting on the river to get value. After he checks behind on the turn he never has a flush and I really messed up by not betting. Ugh. I will try to refrain from playing this bad when I go to Vegas.

Anyways, after this hand I was back to about $270 and it didnt take me long for another mistake (maybe . . .this is the hand Im not sure if its poorly played or if I played it fine. . .Im leaning towards I played it fine). I was in the BB with 3 limpers and the SB with AQo. I decided to check and see the flop. The flop is Q54 rainbow (one club) and I check. It checks to the same kid from the last hand and he bets $10. I just call and see the Jc turn. I check and he bets $24 and I decided to call. The river is the 2c I check, he bets $34 and I call. He shows the Q9cc for the runner runner flush. My check before the flop is pretty standard I think, as I dont need to bloat the pot with a hand that doesnt flop well out of position when I know Im going to get called. The flop is maybe where I made a mistake if on any street. Just calling the $10 bet instead of check-raising is the possible mistake. The reason why I just call is because alot of times it will go check/check on the turn and I can value bet the river so if I raise the flop he will likely fold and I will be missing value vs other queens. However, this plan changed when he bet the turn. It ran through my head that he might have hit 2 pair with QJ but I still have to call the $24 at this point and reevaluate on the river. If I check raise here he is for sure calling with top pair/flush draw so I saved myself money by just flatting here. The river bet of $34 is an easy call because he either has QJ or im ahead most of the time. However, he backdoored the flush which I didnt see coming so he got paid off. After this I was back down to $200.

I played one more big pot on the day and I played this one pretty poorly as well. I made it $10 in EP with 85cc and got called by both the cutoff and the button. The flop came K62 with 2 clubs and I c-bet $16. The cutoff made it $40 and I called. The turn came an offsuit 3 giving me a gutshot with a flush draw. I checked and the cutoff went all in for $57 and I decided to fold. I dont know. On the flop I put in $16 and I only have to put in $24 more to hit my flush, but I think that I either have to plan on both calling this bet and the all in on the turn or neither. After the raise on the flop I know that she will be betting all in on the turn so I have no real defense against that so maybe I shouldnt be calling on the flop. . .

Anyways, after this pot I was down to about $140 and I left soon thereafter with $133 for a total of -$67, my 2nd losing session in a row. Next time I will have to play better.
